CLIENT NEWS: Hamilton veterinary practice named best in the country

Hamilton Veterinary Services (HVS) won Vet Practice of the Year at the recent Petplan Veterinary Awards which recognises the best veterinary practices across New Zealand.

The Te Rapa Road practice received the award following winning the highest number of public votes.

Established by Petplan in 2016, the award pays tribute to a veterinary practice’s industry contribution while going beyond normal duties.

HVS small animal director and clinical veterinarian, Dr Craig Brighouse, says the award reflects how hard their team of experienced staff works to continually attain service excellence.

“Since coming on board sixteen years ago, I’ve always felt our company’s culture of excellence is a standout factor,” says Dr Brighouse,

“We’re the only veterinary service in Hamilton to have a BESTPRACTICE accreditation through the New Zealand Veterinary Association. This is a challenging accreditation to achieve and speaks to the level of care and service we give our clients,” says Dr Brighouse.

“I’m really grateful and proud of this recognition of our team’s quality, compassionate service,” he says.

HVS was established in 1950 under the name Blakely, Thornbury and Dewes and has remained independently owned and operated over the years. It has a full suite of services including two small animal surgery units, separate dog and cat wards and two digital x-ray units for both general radiology and dentistry.

HVS small animal veterinarian, Dr Juliet Matthews, is a veterinarian with 10 years tenure at HVS and believes that on top of their commitment to excellent service, the practice’s community involvement is a key factor which got the public voting.

“At the end of the day, our first commitment is to the animals brought in for care. In discussions with their owners we can establish the best way forward for their treatment,” says Dr Matthews.

The practice’s four veterinarians and support staff provide services to DC Rescue Dogs as well as actively supporting and fundraising for charitable organisations and community groups associated with animals.

“We’re really lucky to have a fantastic group of clients and we’re very touched that they’ve shown their support for us by helping us win this prestigious award,” says Matthews.
