Two new major appointments for Hill Laboratories

New Zealand's largest privately owned analytical laboratory, Hill Laboratories, has made two new appointments as part of a recent restructure, and welcomed aboard new operations general manager Anita Worrall and human resources manager Stuart Brown.

Worrall replaces Matt Glenn who has recently taken up the position of chief executive.

She started with Hill Laboratories last month as an external appointment from Aotea Pathology Ltd. (now Wellington SCL Ltd.) where she was general manager of the lab service.

She says she is looking forward to the challenge of managing the business operations as efficiently as possible, releasing value and ensuring high standards of quality and excellence across all functions of the business.

Worrall qualified as a scientist 25 years ago, going on to gain a Masters in Medical Laboratory Science from Nottingham Trent University in the UK; working in the National Health System specialising largely in microbiology.

After coming to New Zealand in 2003, she worked in a hospital pathology laboratory in Taranaki before moving to Valley Diagnostic Laboratory in Lower Hutt.

After a merge with Medical Laboratory Wellington in 2006 she stepped into a senior management role at Aotea Pathology and gained a post-graduate diploma in business administration from Victoria University in 2011.

Brown, who also started with Hill Laboratories last month, was also an external appointment into the new role of human resources manager from Opus International Consultants Ltd.

He has worked in HR for about 10 years, after getting his Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management in Belfast, Ireland.

"From there, I worked for the NHSwho supported me in gaining my HR post graduate qualification, then went on to take on a plant operations manager role at a mortar production plant before moving to New Zealand about six years ago and taking up an HR advisor role at Hamilton City Council for two-and-a-half years," he said.

Following this, Brown took on his most recent role as senior HR advisor at Opus International Consultants.

"I was looking for career progression and being reasonably choosy about it, but when the role came up with Hill Laboratories, I thought it would be a good fit for me as it has a good reputation, is well established and is a family business, which I was raised in," he said.

"The new structure has a more commercial focus which I think I can add to with my operational and strategic abilities.

"I'm looking forward to developing people and retention projects and making a difference in that space within the company going forward."

With its Hamilton head office, Hill Laboratories has sites in both islands and employs over 350 staff.
