Kate Monahan-Riddell

Kate Monahan-Riddell officially joined the HMC team in July 2016, working part-time as a contractor.

She is a former journalist and previously worked for five years at the Waikato Times as a feature writer, editing the weekly lifestyle and fashion magazine Tempo. She's won several journalism awards, including Qantas Media Awards for feature writing. Under her guidance, Tempo was awarded best food magazine insert and runner up best fashion magazine insert in Qantas Media Awards.

Most recently she's spent five years running her own freelance writing and public relations consultancy, while raising two young children. Clients have included Waikato DHB, AgResearch, Precious Metals and the New Zealand Guernsey Association.

Kate is also an author, and has written organisational histories for clients including Waikato DHB, The Perry Group and Child Matters. She is currently working on a book for NZTA on the Waikato Expressway.

Kate is confident with writing, social media and event management, and currently serves as public relations officer at River Downs Playcentre. Kate also volunteers as a baker for Good Bitches Baking (and makes a mean cupcake!) and as a soccer coach and manager for her son's grade 6 team.

Kate has a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Marketing from Waikato University, and went to high school in Hamilton. She was born in New York, lived in Australia and New Zealand as a child, then lived in New York and Kyoto for 8 years in her 20s. She still enjoys travelling, but thinks Hamilton is a great place to live, work and raise a family!
