Kate Monahan-Riddell officially joined the HMC team in July 2016, initially as a contractor, and became a permanent staffer from January 2017.
She is a former journalist and previously worked for five years at the Waikato Times as a feature writer and editor of Tempo. She's won several journalism awards, including a Qantas Media Awards for feature writing.
Most recently she's spent five years running her own freelance writing and public relations consultancy, while raising two young children.
Kate is also an author, and has written four books for clients including Waikato DHB, The Perry Group and Child Matters. She is currently working on a fifth book for NZTA on the Waikato Expressway.
When she’s not at work, Kate enjoys spending time with her two children and volunteers as a baker for Good Bitches Baking (making cupcakes and yummy treats for community groups such as Waikato Women’s Refuge).
Kate attended high school and university in Hamilton, and is passionate about the Waikato region. She believes it’s an honour and privilege to write about local people and businesses, and is proud to call herself a Hamiltonian. She loves travel and has lived and worked abroad in cities such as New York, Kyoto and Brisbane.
Three things you didn't know about Kate:
- She can speak Japanese
- She love thrillers and scary movies
- She also enjoys going camping every summer with her family and friends (wine and mozzie spray = compulsory)
